Snow Rails Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
The SnoBar system consists of a hollow, 1" x 1" square tube constructed of Gator Shield-coated galvanized steel. The ColorBar system uses an extruded 6061-T6 aluminum bar that can accommodate a color strip. Both systems are available online in a mill finish over the phone or a powder-coated finish over the phone. The ColorBar must be used to span panels wider than 24" due to its superior strength.
IceStoppers are an optional add-on for standing seam rail systems. These essential accessories are fastened to the back of the bar without panel penetration and stop snow and ice accumulation from sliding underneath the rails. Though they are optional, we recommend IceStoppers over areas where pedestrians or cars are present. Installers can retrofit IceStoppers onto existing SnoBar or ColorBar rail systems.
Yes, the ColorBar forms continuous, interconnected rows. Standard lengths for the ColorBar system are 6' (available online) and 12' (available by phone). Your system includes aluminum splice plates to join multiple bars into a continuous row, allowing for expansion and contraction. You can equip the upper channel of the bar with a splice connector that has a single tek screw. Use the tek screw to secure one side of the splice connector to the first bar while leaving the other end to float freely.
No, the SnoBar is not a continuous row. It requires small gaps between the bars for expansion and contraction. Standard lengths for the Snobar system are 6' (available online) and 12' (available by phone). Your system includes the correct number of black plastic end caps to seal both sides of each bar, preventing moisture, debris, and pests from getting inside the tube. These caps also help to hide field-cut edges during the installation.
An adequately installed snow rail system shouldn't result in roof leaks. Use our foam gaskets in conjunction with screws that include neoprene washers. Some customers will use a bead of neutral drying, cold weather silicone to outline the colorbracket bases. But you are not required to complete this step.
Almost any style of sloped roofing is compatible with SnoBar or ColorBar snow rails. We offer systems for various roofing types, including, but not limited to, standing seam roofing, screw-down panels, PBR roofs, wavy corrugated sheets, asphalt shingles, single-ply TPO membrane roofs, and natural or synthetic slate.
