Roof Clamps Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
There are many misconceptions and tales about how RoofClamp's set screws attach to standing seam metal roofing. In response to deceptive marketing claims made by the competition, we tested our clamps. Our testing showed that correctly installed clamps with cupped tip set screws are less likely than properly installed clamps with round tip set screws to expose bare metal to premature corrosion. Additionally, our testing has shown that set screws with round tips that require higher torques can significantly worsen seam distortion more than set screws with cupped tips that require only 90 in/lbs of torque.
The RoofClamp RC and RCT have revolutionized the industry with their universal designs that fit 95% of the panels currently on the market. Because they can be top-loaded onto your project's seams, they reduce installation times and decrease the potential for damage to the panel finish, which is common with non-top-loading clamps. While many other clamps on the market target individual seam types, the Roofclamps eliminate the need for specialized shapes and adapters.
The most important thing to remember when using the RoofClamp RC and RCT is that their torque ratings are in inch pounds (in-lb), not foot pounds (ft-lb). The innovative RoofClamp utilizes three cupped tip set screws that create a posi-lock connection to the panel with minimal panel deformation and zero penetration. This superior hold requires only 90 in-lbs of torque, unlike other clamps that require torque settings often as high as 150 in-lbs.
The RoofClamp RC and RCT can attach almost anything to a standing seam metal roof. Customers wanting to mount products to their roofs without penetrating the seams can confidently do so using RoofClamp. Satellite dishes, solar panels, snow guards, walkways, signage, and exterior lighting are just a few examples of what these products can attach to your roof. The possibilities are endless.
The RoofClamp RC and RCT feature non-corrosive 6061-T6 aluminum bodies and stainless steel hardware. Our coarse threaded set screws, when properly torqued to 90 in-lbs, will not strip out or seize inside of the clamp. Competitors' products that use fine-threaded set screws with high torque settings sometimes experience seizing inside the clamp and, therefore, cannot be reused. As such, you can reuse our clamps repeatedly without fearing product degradation. In most cases, RoofClamp will outlive the life of the roof itself.
