What is the Icejax 1 Snow Guard?

The Icejax 1 snow guard is a versatile roofing solution that was first developed back in 2005. It is a reversible clear  polycarbonate guard that offers two faces for mounting: a flat face and a ribbed straddle face. Whether you prefer to glue it down or screw it in place, the Icejax 1 is designed to easily meet your roofing needs.  The Icejax 1 is not only versatile but also incredibly strong. Both faces measure 3” wide by 2.5” tall. Always make sure to position the Icejax 1 with the face pointing towards the peak of the roof. This allows the gussets on both sides of the guard to support the face under load, keeping it from breaking. 

Is the Icejax 1 Strong?

We have conducted independent third-party laboratory testing and the results were impressive to say the least. With two screws and sealant, you can expect a strength rating of 4,200 pounds. We recommend the use of #14 screws with neoprene washers and a liquid sealant like our  Novaflex MR150. We offer 2” long Master Grippers for drilling into wood structures or our  1.5” Master Drillers for use with metal purlins, like those found in pre-engineered metal buildings. If you choose to use the  Surebond SB-190 adhesive for installation, the strength is rated at 500 pounds. While installation with screws and sealant has no temperature restrictions, making it an excellent year-round choice for exposed fastener roofs, installing with glue must be done at a time of year when the temperature will be at 50 degrees Fahrenheit or above for at least 28 days. The Icejax 1 can only be installed on standing seam roof panels with adhesive. It is never recommended to penetrate a standing seam roof panel. This can lead to roof leaks and may void your roof manufacturer’s warranty. If you are mounting the Icejax 1 on the ridged side, while straddling a rib, it is important to completely fill the gap between the guard and the roof with either sealant or glue. This will prevent moisture from creeping under the guard, and then freezing and expanding which can pry the guard away from the roof and cause failure.

The Icejax 1 snow guard is molded using premium grade UV stabilized 100% virgin  polycarbonate. This ensures that it is not only strong but also resistant to UV damage and discoloration. If you follow our layout and installation instructions, we will replace any broken guards for the life of the roof. Because the installation process is beyond our control, we DO NOT warranty the method of attachment. We always recommend that you obtain a layout before purchasing your  snow guards. A proper layout for the Icejax 1, regardless of installation method, will involve the guards traveling the entire length of the roof in a staggered pattern. This stagger helps distribute the weight of the snow and ice on your roof more evenly. To provide additional weight distribution, multiple rows going up the slope of the roof may also be required.
