How Do You Attach Starlink to a Metal Roof?

Posted by Derek Gamble - SnoBlox-Snojax Specialist on Mar 11th 2024

What is Starlink?

Starlink, operated by SpaceX, is a satellite internet constellation serving over 70 countries and aiming to provide global mobile phone service post-2023. It comprises a network of satellites designed to offer cost-effective internet access to remote areas. SpaceX reported that as of February of this year, 5,438 Starlink satellites are in orbit. Users access the broadband signals through a kit sold by SpaceX, which includes a small satellite dish, Wi-Fi router, cables, and a power supply. Starlink's internet service can be ordered via their website, offering speeds ranging between 100 Mb/s and 200 Mb/s in most locations. The system operates by beaming information through space, ensuring rapid global internet connectivity.

What is the best metal roof mount for Starlink?

The SataMount product line from SnoBlox-Snojax includes two main products: the SataMount™ MRM premium satellite mounting kit for screw-down metal roofs and the SataMount™ RCT premium Satellite Bracket kit for standing seam metal roofs. These mounting kits are heavy-duty, universal-fit solutions for attaching satellite dishes and other equipment to metal roofs. They are compatible with various satellite dishes, including Starlink V1, V2 and V3 pivot mounts, and can also facilitate the installation of conduits, solar microinverters, electrical junction boxes, and more. The SataMount systems withstand harsh weather conditions and offer a secure and durable mounting option for satellite dishes on metal roofs.

The SataMount RCT Key Features:

Rail Clamping Technology:

The hallmark feature of the SataMount RCT is that it utilizes the proven strength and dependability of the aluminum RoofClamp RCT, which allows for secure attachment to the roof without penetrating its surface or seams. By clamping onto the standing seams, the SataMount RCT ensures a robust hold without compromising the roof's integrity. Each clamp utilizes three offset coarse threaded cup point stainless steel set screws that create a posi lock connection to the panel. As opposed to standard bullet nose set screws, which often require 130 in-lbs or more for proper torque, our cup point set screws only require 90 in-lbs of torque to achieve a strong connection. This lower torque requirement aids in the prevention of clamp slippage and panel deformation due to over-torquing.

The SataMount RCT's Modular Design:

The SataMount RCT's modular design enables customization to accommodate various roof types, pitches, seam spacing, and architectural styles. It can fit the unique requirements of almost any project, whether it's a residential cottage or a sprawling commercial complex. The RoofClamp RCT can accommodate over 500 standing seam panels, allowing additional flexibility. The top-loading clamps also allow for quick, easy installation, as the clamps do not require panel feeding for proper positioning.

The SataMount RCT's Material Quality:

Crafted from high-grade defender-coated Unistrut and aluminum clamps with stainless steel hardware, the SataMount RCT boasts exceptional durability and weather resistance. It is engineered to withstand the harshest climates and provides long-lasting protection season after season.

The NEW SataMount MRM Key Features:

Innovative Screw Down Metal Roof Mounting Solution:

The SataMount MRM (Metal Roof Mount) system for Starlink satellite installation stands out as the top choice among homeowners, building proprietors, contractors, and satellite service providers. Its versatility and reliability make it highly favored. The SataBracket, an integral part of this system, is compatible with screw-down metal roofs with a minimum of 1.5 inches flat surface. Specifically designed for use with exposed fastener systems, the SataBracket ensures a secure attachment by screwing directly into the flat areas of the metal roof panels, a method often recommended by leading Ag Panel and PBR-Panel manufacturers to prevent potential leaks. Thanks to its adaptable design and precise engineering, the SataMount MRM integrates with various screw-down metal roofs, eliminating the need for modifications. Additionally, with proper preparation, this product can also be employed on certain types of shingle roofs.
