If a snow rail system is installed correctly, roof leaks should not occur. Ensure you use screws with neoprene washers and pair them with our foam gaskets. Some customers opt to outline the perimeter of the colorbracket bases with a bead of neutral curing, cold weather silicone, but this step is not mandatory.

Gatorshield galvanized steel tubing is an enhanced version of the original Flo-Coat product, utilizing the same cutting-edge manufacturing process but with a 50% increase in the amount of pure Western grade zinc. This provides superior corrosion protection and allows the tubing to be easily painted or powder coated for aesthetic purposes, with minimal preparation required. Additionally, the cold-forming method used to produce Gatorshield results in bars with greater strength than rival products, typically exhibiting a yield strength of at least 50ksi and a tensile strength of 55ksi. The cold-forming method not only ensures long-lasting durability, but also produces bars with more strength than competing products. Gatorshield galvanized steel tubing is an improved version of the original Flo-Coat, delivering both enhanced corrosion resistance and superior strength.

The SnoBar system features black plastic endcaps that seal the ends of the bars. These caps are made of low-density polyethylene, which can withstand temperatures up to 150°F (66°C). They give the bars a clean, finished look while keeping out pests, rodents, and the environment. When field cuts are required, two caps per bar are needed to conceal the exposed cut edges on painted or powder-coated systems.

The fasteners for the Screw Down rail system are all self-tapping screws. These self-tapping tek screws are used to secure the ColorBar to the back of the ColorBrackets. The same tek screws are also utilized to install the splice connectors between the ColorBars, creating a continuous run. Depending on the material of the roof structure and purlins, the ColorBrackets are installed using either 1.5" Master Drillers (for metal purlins) or 2" Master Grippers (for wood purlins).

The ColorBrackets have 6 pre-drilled holes. These should be installed facing up the slope. A common installation pattern uses 3 of the holes in an alternating "S" shape. You can add more screws to the remaining holes for extra holding strength. This is useful when you can't attach to purlins and the only support is the wood decking. Snow rails must never be attached only to the metal roof panels. Additional structure is required.

The first version, Sno Horse, was installed by Jim Huff at Denver International Airport in 1992.
