SnowBreaker 3M Snow Guard Key Features

  • Made in America

  • Easy to install

  • Most Versatile Snow Guard Available!

  • It can be installed with screws, adhesive, or tape

  • Safely breaks apart sliding snow and ice!

 SnowBreaker DimensionsSnowBreaker In Snow

The SnowBreakers are snow splitter snow guards for metal roofs.

Rather than hold the snow and ice on the roof, this product breaks it up so it can shed from the roof in smaller pieces, thus minimizing the danger. This is the best of both worlds because the snow and ice can shed the roof faster than conventional snow retention while providing a level of safety protection.

SnowBreaker 3M Snow Guard is Versatile

The SnowBreaker can be installed on both types of roofs:

Screw-Down Roof with Exposed Fasteners:

You can simply use the screw-down version of the SnowBreaker that fastens down into a purlin or structural support below.

Standing Seam Roof:

You can elect to install the SnowBreaker with the SB-190 adhesive version, temperature permitting or 3m tape option as a temporary solution when temperature requirements can not be met for the SB-190. (3M tape option will still require a bead of SB-190 around the perimeter for extra protection and should not be used when ground snow loads exceed 25 PSF. One tube of SB-190 is included with every 50 SnowBreaker 3M guards) Smaller order quantities have the price of the SB-190 perimeter sealer built in the price per guard.

SnowBreaker 3M Snow Guard is Safe for You and Your Roof

The SnowBreaker is very effective in preventing damage caused by the sudden release of snow and ice, all with less worries of overloading your roof. No other snow guard can make this claim! As the snow and ice slide on the roof, this cost-effective product minimizes the danger by slicing the frozen precipitation into small pieces so it can safely come off the roof.

SnowBreaker 3M Snow Guard Wintertime Application

Because of the cutting edge design, it is not conducive to receiving a significant sheer load so there is a peel and stick version for installation in cooler weather. The 3m tape requires a minimum temperature of 50 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 72 hours and should only be considered a temporary attachment solution. The 3M tape was professionally tested to have an average holding strength of 234 pounds of shear strength before releasing from the panel.

SnowBreaker 3M Snow Guard: The Solution for Isolated Areas and Doorways

In theory, a snow guard can not hold snow and ice in an isolated area on a roof because the load of the frozen mass will extend to the unprotected area. This severely overloads the snow retention system and will cause premature release and eventual failure. The SnowBreaker is not designed to hold snow for very long, so this theory can be modified by placing the SnowBreaker in a 45-degree outward angle over the desired isolated area to protect. This is a huge cost savings over conventional snow guard systems that require the entire roof area to have snow retention just to protect isolated areas. Please see the Isolated Placement Guide for guidelines on isolated areas.

SnowBreaker 3M Snow Guard: What's Included

The 3M SnowBreaker comes with pre-attached tape and one tube of SureBond SB-190 per 50 SnowBreaker 3M's. This is used to apply a bead of adhesive around the entire perimeter. The minimum order is 25.

SnowBreaker 3M Snow Guards Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The SnowBreaker is a versatile product that can act as snow retention in multiple ways. When positioned with the pointed side facing up the slope, the SnowBreaker helps to break up snow and ice, minimizing damage from snow slides. The SnowBreaker's distinctive design allows it to be used as a snow guard while facing down the roof's slope. When installing SnowBreakers in these configurations, adhering to the spacing recommendations for screw-down or glue-down snow guard installations is essential.

When considering the 3M mounting option for our SnowBreaker snow guard , it's important to note that this is recommended when a non-penetrating solution is required, but the temperature is too low to allow the adhesive to cure properly. The Surebond SB-190 adhesive , for instance, needs a minimum temperature of 50°F (10°C) for around 28 days to fully cure. If SnowBreakers were installed using the 3M method, they should be removed and re-installed using the adhesive once the temperature increases.

Not all plastic snow guards are of the same high quality. We exclusively use 100% virgin, UV-stabilized polycarbonate manufactured in the USA. While our polycarbonate snow guards may gradually lose some clarity over time, they rarely develop an amber discoloration.
The SnowBreaker is the only snow guard that can be used with 3M double-sided tape. Its unique shape breaks up snow and ice rather than holding it in place. It's important to note that double-sided tape is not recommended for snow guards, as their primary purpose is to retain snow and ice on the roof. Therefore, 3M tape should only be used as a temporary solution with the SnowBreaker when weather conditions do not allow for proper adhesive curing.

Yes. A well-designed layout aims to spread the weight of snow and ice across the entire roof surface rather than concentrating it in a small area.

About SnoBlox-Snojax

In the late 1970s, we embarked on a quest for an improved snow guard solution that would be non-corrosive and nearly invisible to preserve the building's aesthetic appeal. After extensive testing, we obtained a patent for Snojax®, the world's first screw-down, clear, non-corrosive, polycarbonate snow guard. In 1985, we innovated further with the release of Snojax II, the world's first glue-down polycarbonate snow guard. By 2000, we introduced two patented SnoBlox® models, "Ace" and "Deuce," offering an economical alternative and resolving the challenge of straddling minor ribs. These models boasted the industry's first patented waffled base design, enhancing adhesive bonding. In 2005, we expanded our offerings with Icejax I and Icejax II, which were validated through rigorous testing by the renowned ATI professional testing laboratory. Our Snojax®, SnoBlox®, Icejax™, and SnowCatcher™ brands are the epitome of robust snow guards in the industry, validated by comprehensive testing.
