The SnoCleat PBR is an all-aluminum screw-down pad-style snow guard specially designed for mechanically fastened PBR or R panels.

This aluminum snow guard fits screw-down metal roofing panels with at least 1 1/2 inches between the minor ribs.

Customers typically refer to these metal panels as Exposed Fastener Metal Roof Panels, PBR, AG, or R-Panels. The six predrilled holes allow for easy fastening of snow stops to the purlin through the panel. This device is mounted utilizing a minimum of three #14 roofing screws with neoprene washers. For enhanced holding strength, consider using additional fasteners in the remaining holes. The additional screws will provide extra stability and support, ensuring the snow guard remains secure under varying conditions and loads. A foam gasket is supplied for installation between the guard and the panel, eliminating the need for glue or liquid sealant. The SnoCleat PBR features a large 4-inch-wide face, fastened with two Tek-screws.

SnoCleat With ColorStrip

The face of the guard accepts an optional 4-inch-wide by 2-inch-tall color strip to match your roof.

The SnoCleat PBR is the only all-aluminum screw-down snow guard that can seamlessly blend in with your roof by adding a ColorStrip in the face of the guard. Customers usually purchase the ColorStrips from the panel manufacturer or cut 2-inch by 4-inch pieces from leftover panel scraps. The SnoCleat PBR is also available for powder coating to match the metal roof panel for an additional charge.

SnoCleat PBR Key Features

  • Large 4-inch-wide Face Accepts Color Strips for Color Matching

  • 6063-T5 Aircraft Grade Aluminum w/ galvanized fasteners

  • Foam Base Gasket Included, no need for messy sealants

  • Six Predrilled Screw Holes for Optimum Holding Power

SnoCleat PBR Special Considerations

Use the SnoCleat PBR only for screw-down applications; do not mount this guard with adhesive. Do not use snow guards only in isolated areas of the roof, such as chimneys, doorways, vents, or partial roof sections. Always review the spacing guidelines before making your purchase.

SnoCleat PBR Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The majority of our screw-down snow guards install using one of the two types of screws that we offer. The Master Grippers are 2" long #14 self-tapping screws for wood purlins, and the Master Drillers are 1.5" long #14 self-tapping screws for metal purlins. These case-hardened carbon steel fasteners have neoprene washers and are silver in color. Longer screws may be required, depending on whether or not there is insulation under the panels.

Our metal SnowCatchersSnoCleat PBR, and SnoCleat 2.67 provide a die-cut foam gasket instead of liquid sealant. Sometimes, our customers install these bases and then run a bead of sealant around them to add protection, but this step is not required.

The SnoCleat PBR snow guard should permanently be installed in staggered rows covering the entire length of the roof section you want to protect. We never recommend installations in isolated areas such as over doorways, above chimneys and vent pipes, or over HVAC units. Multiple rows may be required going up the slope depending on roof pitch, panel dimensions, ground snow load, etc. For spacing recommendations, please refer to our Spacing Guidelines Page.

You may insert a 2" wide strip of flat stock metal roofing material into the channels on the front face of the SnoCleat PBR guard and its bracket when using it. You can make this from leftover roofing material. We also offer custom powder coating at an additional cost. You must provide a physical color sample for precise color matching. For information on pricing and availability, you can call us at 1-800-766-5291. Color-matched snow guards usually require 3-4 weeks for production and are not kept in stock. Customers can opt to paint them upon arrival or have them coated locally.

A correctly installed snow guard system should prevent roof leaks from occurring. Make sure that you use screws with neoprene washers and combine them with either foam gaskets for metal snow guards or liquid silicone for polycarbonate snow guards. Many customers decide against adding new roof penetrations for snow guards. They often choose to install a glue-down snow retention system using the Surebond SB-190 adhesive as an alternative.

About SnoBlox-Snojax

In the late 1970s, we embarked on a quest for an improved snow guard solution that would be non-corrosive and nearly invisible to preserve the building's aesthetic appeal. After extensive testing, we obtained a patent for Snojax®, the world's first screw-down, clear, non-corrosive, polycarbonate snow guard. In 1985, we innovated further with the release of Snojax II, the world's first glue-down polycarbonate snow guard. By 2000, we introduced two patented SnoBlox® models, "Ace" and "Deuce," offering an economical alternative and resolving the challenge of straddling minor ribs. These models boasted the industry's first patented waffled base design, enhancing adhesive bonding. In 2005, we expanded our offerings with Icejax I and Icejax II, which were validated through rigorous testing by the renowned ATI professional testing laboratory. Our Snojax®, SnoBlox®, Icejax™, and SnowCatcher™ brands are the epitome of robust snow guards in the industry, validated by comprehensive testing.
