Snow Guard Color Options
Clear or transparent snow guards are often used when you want them to be less noticeable on the roof. They allow the roof's color and texture to show through, making them a subtle choice. Clear snow guards do not cast shadows like colored snow stops. Snojax was the first company to patent the clear plastic snow guard back in late 70's. The original clear polycarbonate snow guard is the Snojax I model.
Black snow guards are the most popular color for snow guards. These are especially good for roofs with dark-colored shingles or metal roofing. They seamlessly blend in with the roof, offering a low-profile appearance. Many customers will use black snow guards as a decorative approach to contrast just about any color roof.
Brown snow guards are chosen for roofs with brown or earth-toned shingles or for a more natural appearance. Our most popular brown color is the medium bronze color.
White snow guards are commonly used on roofs with white or light-colored roofing materials, providing a clean and cohesive look. White does tend to show dirt more readily than any other color, but they are a color that many of our customers use to contrast with their metal roof.
Green snow guards are designed to match green or eco-friendly roofing materials or to blend in with natural surroundings in certain cases. Color trends change over the years. Hunter Green used to be the most popular color for metal roofs but now it is one of the least popular colors choices that we carry.
We offer custom color options for the SnoBlox Deuce and SnowCatcher snow guards to match the exact color of your roof if quantity requirements are met. Color matching is usually preferred by customers, design professionals and architects to achieve a specific design aesthetic.
Colored Snow Guards Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
We manufacture our colored snow guards in the USA using only 100% virgin polycarbonate. This material is stronger, lighter, and thirty times more durable than acrylic. The UV-stabilization of our polycarbonate prevents it from deteriorating, discoloring, fading, and weakening the guards. Commercial airplane windshields are made of the same trusted material.
We do not, currently, offer custom matched screws for our snow guards. With thousands of available roofing shades on the market from hundreds of different manufacturers, it would be impossible to stock screws to match all of these options. Our 2” Master Grippers (for use with wooden structures) and 1.5” Master Drillers (for use with metal structures) come in a standard silver finish.
A well-planned layout should distribute the weight of the snow and ice over the entire roof surface rather than concentrating it in one area. We having spacing guidelines available online for all of our snow guard products to help take the guess work out of your project. For projects in regions with ground snow loads of higher than 45 PSF, we recommend filling out the SnoBar Quote Request Form.
Powder coating can be used to match the color of the stainless steel SnowCatcher snow guard. When a custom quote is needed for a bespoke color match, a physical sample must be supplied to us. Once a match is found, the quote will be issued. Orders for powder coating typically have a 3–4 week production time. SnowCatchers are not kept in stock that are already coated. Customers can order SnowCatchers in mill finish and either spray paint them or have them coated locally if they'd like a quicker or more affordable option.
Three holes have already been pre-drilled into the base of the SnowCatcher snow guard. For installation, the two holes next to the guard's face are necessary. The guard is generally hung during the optional powder coating process through a third hole at the opposite end of the base. As an additional mounting point for greater strength, this third hole is also beneficial.
