What Are Snow Guards and How Do They Work?
Snow guards are devices installed on roofs to control snow and ice movement by holding snow in place so it melts gradually instead of sliding off in dangerous sheets. Snow guards are commonly used on metal roofs, standing seam panels, and other sloped roofing systems.
Snow retention systems control how snow and ice release from a roof by allowing it to melt slowly or shed in small, manageable amounts. Polycarbonate snow guards are also commonly called snow stops, snow brackets, or snow blocks and are widely used on sloped roofs, including metal roofing systems.
Snow guards improve safety, reduce liability, and help protect gutters, vents, landscaping, vehicles, equipment, and people below from sliding snow and ice.
