SnoBar For Metal Roofs

SnoBar & ColorBar Metal Roof Snow Rail Systems

Metal roof snow rails provide continuous, structural snow retention for roofs where snow and ice need to be held in place instead of sliding off in sheets. SnoBlox-Snojax offers SnoBar galvanized snow rails and ColorBar aluminum snow bar systems for standing seam, screw-down, corrugated, shingle, and membrane roof applications.

Compare standing seam snow rails, screw-down snow rail kits, 2.67 corrugated snow bars, double-bar snow retention systems, and related SnoBar/ColorBar components below.

Galvanized Snow Rails

Standing Seam Snow Rails

SnoBar is our standard duty bar and is typically specified for standing seam metal roof panels up to 24 inches wide. The 16-gauge bar is 1-inch square dipped in Gatorshield® coated galvanized steel. For an additional charge, it is also available in stainless steel or powder-coated to match your roof. You can order 6-foot kits online with stainless steel or aluminum roof clamps. The SnoBar and ColorBar are the only snow retention systems with top-loading clamps. The aluminum RCT RoofClamp snow bar kits fit most bulb and t-seam panels. Our Clamp Comparison Chart will help determine which clamp will work best on your project.

Screw Down R-Panel Snow Rails

Our traditional snow bar is the mechanically fastened SnoBar with the patented top-loading mounting bracket. It is specifically designed for screw-down R-panels with 9-inch or 12-inch flats. Each panel flat uses one mounting bracket per 12 or 18 inches, depending on the panel rib spacing. 27-inch Sample Kits can be ordered online. Custom powder coating is available and can match almost any panel color! The SnoBar features a patented design that accommodates most screw-down roof panels with at least 1.5 inches of panel flat between the minor ribs.

2.67 Wavy Corrugated Snow Rails

SnoBar is our standard duty bar that uses the 2.67 aluminum ColorBracket every 12" when typically specified for use on 2.67 wavy corrugated metal roof panels. The 16-gauge bar is 1" square and is available in either Gatorshield coated galvanized steel or can be custom ordered in stainless steel. Both options offer superior corrosion resistance.27" Sample Kitscan be ordered online. Custom powder coating is available for superior color matching to your panels! SnoBar systems can be designed for most roof panels and roof types. Our snow rail systems include all of the bars, clamps, hardware, instructions, and customer support to get the job done right!

Aluminum Snow Rails

Standing Seam ColorBar Snow Rails

ColorBar is our heavy duty, structural aluminum bar typically used with heavier snow loads or seams wider than 16". The strength of the bar is the backbone of any rail system and this one can be used on seams up to 42" wide. It weighs 40% more per foot than the competition's bar. This gives our bar superior deflection strength! ColorBar is designed to accept optional ColorStrips for a fast, economical color match. The six foot kits with the Stainless-Steel Bar Clamps are crafted from 12-gauge stainless steel and use two industry-leading, low torque, stainless steel "Cup Tip" set screws. There are also six foot kits available with Aluminum RCT Roof Clamps that are manufactured from 6063T-5 mill aluminum using three "Cup Tip" set screws. Because our patented clamps are top loading, installation is faster and easier than other systems!

ColorBar For Screw Down Roofs

The heavy duty aluminum ColorBar comes standard with the Tall Mounting Bracket or the Short ColorBracket can be requested. This is our standard duty bar that is typically installed on PBR metal roof panels that have 9 inch or 12 inch flats. Each panel flat uses one mounting bracket per 12 inches or 18 inches depending on the style of roof panel. There are 27" Sample Kitsthat can be ordered online. Custom powder coating is available for superior color matching to your panels! ColorBar is designed to accept optional 2 inch ColorStrips in the ColorBracket and the bar. For an upcharge, this system can also be powder coated to match the metal roof panel.

2.67 Wavy Corrugated ColorBar

ColorBar is our heavy duty, structural aluminum bar typically used with heavier snow loads. It uses the 2.67 Aluminum ColorBracket every 12" when typically specified for use on 2.67 wavy corrugated metal roof panels. The strength of the bar is the backbone of any rail system. It weighs 40% more per foot than the competition's aluminum bar. Our aluminum snow rails have superior deflection strength! ColorBar is designed to accept optional ColorStrips in the face of the bar for a fast, economical color match. 27" Sample Kitscan be ordered online. The aluminum ColorBar can be connected together with the included splice plate connectors. This option is not available with the SnoBar.

Double Bar Snow Rails

2 Bar Galvanized SnoBar

Our galvanized Double-Bar SnoBar Standing Seam Snow Rail utilize the proven power of our patented extruded one piece universal RCT RoofClamps, this snow rail system can be used for new or existing standing seam roofs. Cup-tip stainless steel screws permanently clamp the anchor to the seam and only require 90/in-lbs. of torque, whereas round tip set screws can require up to 180/in-lbs.. Lower torque means less seam deformation. Double Bar SnoBar Screw Down Snow Rail System for exposed fastener metal roofs are great for projects on a budget that require a heavy-duty snow guard application.

2 Bar ColorBar Aluminum Snow Bars

Our exclusive Double-Bar ColorBar Standing Seam Snow Rails are perfect for projects that require a structural, two-bar system on a standing seam metal roof. Cup Tip Stainless Steel Screws permanently anchor to the seam and only require 90/in-lbs. of torque, whereas round tip set screws can require up to 180/in-lbs. Less torque means more efficient holding power. The new Double-Bar ColorBar Screw Down Snow Rail is a continuous snow rail that uses our exclusive MRM metal roof-mount bracket, which features 8 pre-drilled holes for positive attachment into a solid substrate below the roof panel.

The History of Snow Retention According to SnoBar

Metal Roof Snow Bar & Snow Rail FAQ

SnoBar is a galvanized snow rail system featuring bars placed closely together. In contrast, ColorBar is a continuous, heavy-duty structural aluminum snow bar system. SnoBar is a strong and economical option for various metal roof snow retention projects, while ColorBar is designed for more demanding applications.

IceStoppers are not always necessary, but installers commonly add them when small pieces of snow or ice could slip under the rail. They are especially useful above walkways, doorways, driveways, parking areas, and other high-risk locations below the roof edge.

Snow rails can be installed on standing-seam metal roofs when compatible non-penetrating clamps mount to the seam profile. Clamp-on SnoBar and ColorBar systems help provide continuous snow retention without drilling through the roof panel.

Snow rails install on screw‑down metal roofs when the panel has bracket mounting points wide enough to allow installers to fasten the system directly into the roof structure below. Exposed-fastener AG panels, PBR panels, and R-panel roofs often use screw-down SnoBar or ColorBar systems.

Mill finish, 6-foot SnoBar, and ColorBar kits available on our website for immediate purchase. When customers require larger linear footage or desire a custom powder-coated finish, we ship 12-foot bars via LTL in wooden crates. Our technicians are standing by to quote these systems for our customers. Price quote turn around times are typically 24-48 hours.

The number of snow rail rows depends on roof slope, roof run length, snow load, panel type, seam or rib spacing, and snow load. Many roofs require more than one row to distribute snow loads properly, rather than relying on a single rail near the eave.
