Snow Guards for Metal Exteriors

Snow guards for Metal Exteriors roofing panels help control sudden rooftop releases of snow and ice above walkways, entrances, parking areas, landscaping, equipment, and other places where sliding accumulation may create safety concerns or property damage. The correct SnoBlox-Snojax solution depends first on whether the Metal Exteriors roof uses a standing-seam concealed-fastener panel or an exposed-fastener profile, and then on the specific panel installed.

Compatible Metal Exteriors snow retention options may include adhesive-mounted polycarbonate guards, screw-fastened guards, standard SnowCatcher products, PBR-style rail systems, non-penetrating clamp-on rail assemblies, RCB-3 systems, 2-bar rails, and compatible SnoCleat products, depending on panel geometry.
  • Metal Exteriors standing-seam and exposed-fastener panels require different attachment methods for snow retention.
  • Standing seam panels should use compatible clamp-on systems or adhesive-mounted guards rather than screw-down attachments.
  • Exposed-fastener panels may accept adhesive-mounted guards, screw-down guards, standard SnowCatcher products, PBR rails, or SnoCleat PBR systems when the panel shape and mounting area allow them.
  • Metal Loc 1.5 supports a broad selection of adhesive-mounted guards and clamp-on systems.
  • Final product selection should consider roof slope, panel width, snow load, run length, roof material, panel striations, and a complete roof layout.
Important: Do not select snow guards only by appearance. A guard or rail that fits one Metal Exteriors profile may not fit another. Clamp-on systems belong only on compatible standing-seam profiles. At the same time, exposed-fastener panels may require adhesive bonding, mechanical fastening, PBR brackets, or another panel-specific attachment method. Choosing the wrong system can reduce holding strength, raise leak risk, or lead to early failure.

  • Metal Loc 1.5 standing seam panel: Compatible with adhesive-mounted polycarbonate snow guards, SnoBar/ColorBar standing seam rails, RCB-3 systems, 2-bar rails, and SnoCleat RC/RCT.
  • Parallel Rib exposed-fastener panel: Compatible with selected polycarbonate guards, standard SnowCatcher, SnoCleat PBR, SnoBar PBR, and ColorBar PBR; larger pad-style guards do not fit this profile.
  • Elite Rib, PBR, and Ultra Max exposed-fastener panels: Compatible with the broad exposed-fastener product group shown in the chart, excluding products designed only for 2.67-inch corrugated panels.
  • Standing seam warning: Never fasten screw-down snow guards through concealed-fastener standing seam panels.

About Metal Exteriors Roofing Systems

Metal Exteriors is a family-owned manufacturer of roll-formed metal roofing and siding based in Shiloh, Ohio. Founded in 2013, the company produces multiple roofing and siding profiles in a broad range of colors, prints, textures, gauges, and finishes. Its roofing selection includes the concealed-fastener Metal Loc 1.5 panel and the exposed-fastener Parallel Rib, Elite Rib, PBR, and Ultra Max profiles, so snow guard compatibility must match the exact Metal Exteriors panel on the building.

Snow Retention Solutions for Metal Exteriors Roofing

Metal Exteriors standing seam roofs and exposed fastener roofs require different snow retention attachment methods. Standing seam panels generally call for non-penetrating clamp-on systems where the seam geometry permits them, or adhesive-mounted polycarbonate guards where the panel pan provides enough bonding surface. Exposed-fastener panels may accept screw-down products when installers fasten them through low flats and into suitable structure.

Explore our complete selection of snow guards for metal roofs and use the charts below to identify products shown as compatible with each Metal Exteriors panel. “YES” means the product appears as a fit for that profile. “NO” means the chart does not show it as compatible.

Snow Guards for Metal Exteriors Standing Seam Roof Panels

The Metal Loc 1.5 concealed-fastener panel has a 1.5-inch seam height, 16-inch coverage, and a snap-lock design with concealed clip fasteners. Its panel pan can support adhesive-mounted polycarbonate guards. At the same time, the seam shape can accept compatible non-penetrating clamp-on rails and SnoCleat products after a successful test fit.

Standing seam warning: Do not install screw-down snow guards through concealed-fastener standing-seam roofing. Use compatible clamp-on products where the seam accepts them or adhesive-mounted guards where a suitable flat bonding surface is available.

Do you need more information about compatible snow guards for Metal Exteriors standing-seam roof panels? Read our complete blog: Snow Guards for Metal Exteriors Standing Seam Metal Roof Panels.

Metal Loc 1.5 offers broad standing-seam compatibility because its profile works with many adhesive-mounted polycarbonate guards and compatible non-penetrating clamp-on snow retention systems.

Test-fit all clamps before placing a full order. Striated surfaces may require additional adhesive to fill small gaps and limit moisture paths beneath a guard. For rail systems above pedestrian or parking areas, consider IceStopper attachments to help control snow and ice beneath the rail.

Snow Guards for Metal Exteriors Exposed Fastener Roof Panels

This guide covers four Metal Exteriors exposed-fastener profiles: Parallel Rib, Elite Rib, PBR, and Ultra Max. Parallel Rib has 36-inch coverage, 9-inch rib spacing, and 3/4-inch ribs. Elite Rib also covers 36 inches but uses 12-inch rib spacing and 3/4-inch ribs. PBR has 36-inch coverage with 1-1/4-inch ribs on 12-inch centers, while Ultra Max features 1.5-inch ribs spaced 18 inches apart.

Exposed fastener reminder: When the chart shows screw-down guards or rails as compatible, installers should fasten them through the panel’s low flats and into adequate structure. Do not mount individual guards or rail systems directly on the high ribs.

Parallel Rib works with IceJax I, EcoJax, SnoBlox Deuce, SnoJax I, SnowBreaker, standard SnowCatcher, SnoCleat PBR, SnoBar PBR, and ColorBar PBR. Its narrower panel flats do not support the larger IceJax II, SnoBlox Ace, or SnoJax II products shown for the other profiles.

Elite Rib, PBR, and Ultra Max accept the broader product selection shown in the chart.

SnoCleat 2.67, SnoBar 2.67, and ColorBar 2.67 do not fit these panels because those systems require 2.67-inch corrugated geometry. For screw-down installations, fasteners must engage appropriate structure beneath the panel. For adhesive-mounted guards, follow SureBond SB-190 curing requirements and do not use the adhesive on copper roofing.

Metal Exteriors Snow Guard Buying Checklist

  • Confirm the exact Metal Exteriors panel name before selecting a product.
  • Identify the roof type: standing seam, concealed fastener, exposed fastener, PBR-style, or corrugated.
  • Verify the attachment method: adhesive, screw-down, clamp-on, PBR bracket, or 2.67 corrugated bracket.
  • Check ground snow load. Individual adhesive-mounted or screw-down guards generally suit lighter snow-load applications. At the same time, higher loads often call for rail systems.
  • Request a layout instead of protecting only isolated locations such as doors, chimneys, or HVAC equipment.
  • Order samples or single units when you need to confirm a test fit. SnoBlox-Snojax products and components have no minimum order requirement.
