Snow Guards for MBCI

Snow guards for MBCI metal roofing panels help reduce the risk of sudden snow and ice release above doors, sidewalks, loading areas, vehicles, landscaping, and other vulnerable spaces below the roof edge. The correct SnoBlox-Snojax product depends on whether the roof is a standing-seam concealed-fastener system or an exposed-fastener panel, and then on the exact MBCI panel profile installed.

Compatible MBCI snow retention options may include adhesive-mounted polycarbonate snow guards, screw-fastened guards, corrugated 2.67 systems, PBR-style rails, non-penetrating clamp-on rail systems, and clamp-on SnoCleat products, depending on the panel design.
  • MBCI standing-seam and exposed-fastener panels require different snow-guard attachment methods.
  • Standing seam roofs should use compatible clamp-on or adhesive-mounted systems, not screw-through seam attachments.
  • Exposed fastener panels may accept glue-down, screw-down, SnowCatcher, PBR rail, or 2.67 corrugated systems, depending on panel geometry.
  • Batten-style standing seam panels are limited because the batten cover can prevent reliable clamp-on attachment.
  • Final product selection should always account for roof slope, panel width, snow load, run length, roof material, and layout requirements.
Important: Do not choose snow guards based on panel appearance alone. A product that fits one MBCI profile may be wrong for another. Clamp-on systems are intended only for compatible standing seam profiles, while exposed fastener panels may require adhesive bonding, screw-down attachment, PBR brackets, or 2.67 corrugated brackets. Incorrect selection can reduce holding power, create leak risks, or cause premature system failure.

About MBCI Metal Roofing Systems

MBCI has supplied metal building components since 1976 and offers a large catalog of roof and wall panel profiles for commercial, industrial, agricultural, and residential projects. Because MBCI manufactures both standing-seam concealed-fastener panels and exposed-fastener metal roofing panels, snow retention compatibility varies by panel type, seam shape, rib spacing, fastening method, and available mounting surface. This guide combines compatibility information for MBCI standing-seam and exposed-fastener roof panels to help identify which SnoBlox-Snojax snow guards and snow retention systems are compatible with specific MBCI profiles.

Snow Retention Solutions for MBCI Metal Roofing

MBCI standing-seam concealed-fastener panels and exposed-fastener panels use different attachment strategies. Standing seam roofs usually benefit from non-penetrating clamp-on systems when the seam shape allows it, while exposed fastener roofs may accept screw-down products when fastened through the proper low flats and into adequate structure.

See our full range of snow guards for metal roofs, then use the charts below to identify which SnoBlox-Snojax products fit each MBCI panel. A “YES” indicates confirmed compatibility for that panel profile, while a “NO” indicates the product does not fit that profile.

Snow Guards for MBCI Standing Seam Roof Panels

MBCI standing-seam and concealed-fastener profiles include Craftsman Series High Batten, Craftsman Series Small Batten, Slimline, BattenLok HS, Double-Lok, LokSeam, SuperLok, and Ultra-Dek. The most important distinction is whether the panel has a clampable seam, a batten-style cap, a trapezoidal rib shape, or a flat pan suitable for adhesive-mounted guards.

Standing seam warning: Do not install screw-down snow guards through concealed-fastener standing seam roof panels. Use compatible clamp-on products where the seam accepts them, or adhesive-mounted guards where a flat bonding surface is available.

The Craftsman Series High Batten and Craftsman Series Small Batten are compatible with adhesive-mounted individual guards but not with clamp-on rails or cleats. The separate batten cap limits reliable clamp attachment because the clamp may grip the cover rather than the structural panel seam.

Slimline, BattenLok HS, Double-Lok, LokSeam, SuperLok, and Ultra-Dek are the most versatile standing seam profiles in this group because they can accept both adhesive-mounted guards and compatible clamp-on systems.

Several MBCI standing seam profiles feature striations or minor ribs, so adhesive-mounted guards may require a thicker adhesive bed to fill small gaps and reduce moisture paths beneath the guard. If using a rail system, IceStopper attachments are recommended above pedestrian or parking areas to help manage snow and ice beneath the rail.

Snow Guards for MBCI Exposed Fastener Roof Panels

MBCI exposed fastener profiles include PBR, 5V Crimp, 7.2 Panel, PBC, PBD, PBU, Perma-Clad, Rain Guard, Stormproof, and WeatherSafe. These panels do not all provide the same flat mounting area, so compatibility changes significantly from one profile to the next.

Exposed fastener reminder: When screw-down snow guards or rails are compatible, they should be attached through the low flats of the panel and into adequate structure unless using the 2.67 systems for PBC and PBD.

PBR and WeatherSafe offer the broadest exposed-fastener compatibility, as they accept a wide range of individual guards, SnowCatcher products, SnoCleat PBR, and PBR-style rail systems. Perma-Clad, Rain Guard, and Stormproof have several compatible options. Still, verify panel geometry and roof assembly details before ordering.

PBC and PBD are treated as 2.67-style panels and should use 2.67-compatible snow retention products.

For screw-down installations, fasteners should penetrate adequate structure, not just the panel skin. For adhesive-mounted polycarbonate guards, use Surebond SB-190 where appropriate and allow full cure time before relying on the snow retention layout.

MBCI Snow Guard Buying Checklist

  • Confirm the exact MBCI panel profile before selecting any snow retention product.
  • Identify the roof type: standing seam concealed fastener, batten seam, exposed fastener, PBR-style, or corrugated.
  • Verify the attachment method: adhesive-mounted, clamp-on, screw-down, PBR bracket, or 2.67 corrugated bracket depending on the panel design.
  • Evaluate the roof snow load. Individual adhesive-mounted or screw-fastened snow guards are generally better suited for lighter snow-load conditions, while heavier snow regions often require rail-style systems.
  • Request a snow retention layout instead of placing snow guards only above isolated areas such as entrances, walkways, rooftop equipment, or loading zones.
  • Order sample components or single units when a test fit is recommended. SnoBlox-Snojax snow retention products and accessories are available with no minimum order requirements.

No. MBCI manufactures multiple standing seam, batten seam, exposed fastener, PBR-style, and corrugated panels. Each roof profile may require a different attachment method including clamp-on, adhesive-mounted, screw-down, PBR bracket, or corrugated bracket systems.
No. Some MBCI standing seam profiles support clamp-on rail and cleat systems, while others may only be compatible with adhesive-mounted snow guards. Batten-style seams and certain curved profiles may limit clamp-on compatibility.
No. Screw-down snow guards should generally not be installed through concealed-fastener standing seam roof panels because penetrating the seam can increase leak risk and may affect roof performance or warranties.
MBCI PBR-style roof panels are commonly compatible with PBR rail systems such as SnoBar PBR and ColorBar PBR, along with selected screw-down snow guards, SnowCatcher systems, and SnoCleat PBR products.
In many cases, yes. However, striated metal roof panels may require a heavier adhesive bed to help fill small surface gaps beneath the guard and improve long-term bonding performance.
The exact MBCI panel name and profile should always be confirmed before selecting snow retention products. Roof appearance alone is not enough because similar-looking panels may require completely different attachment systems.
Yes. Snow retention systems should typically be installed using a properly engineered layout based on factors such as roof slope, panel type, snow load, roof length, and roof geometry instead of placing guards only above isolated areas.
Yes. SnoBlox-Snojax products and components can be ordered individually with no minimum order requirement, making it easier to perform test fits before placing a larger order.
